August 2016 meeting - You will not want to miss this!!

The August 14th 2016 meeting will be a tour of the IDNR Jake Wolf Memorial Fish Hatchery!

The hatchery is located in Topeka Il (not Kansas) and is about 30 minutes West. Information about the hatchery can be found here: http://dnr.state.il.us/Interpret/jwolf.htm

There is no cost for the tour, and I'll be able to take 6 others in the van with me.

We'll meet at my place and leave from there at 1:30 PM SHARP.

I'll need a head count for them so if you are interested in going, please let me know.

Should be a pretty cool time.

I would like to go, but I'm going to have to say "no" at present. Construction season is in full swing right now and between working physically demanding and long hours (Saturday also) and the heat, I feel about dead. I'm sorely in need of rest and down time, and not getting any. Sunday is my only day right now to try to recuperate before starting it all again on Mondays. I've not been able to do things that need done (I hear fish tanks that badly need cleaned calling in vain), let alone anything I'd just *like* to do. I would like to go but I just can't right now.

The trip to the State fisheries site was a good one. They walked through the equipment and facilities they use for breeding, egg care and fry grow out. They also toured the food storage area where the food in 50 pound bags is stored. The crude analysis on the bags looked about the same as we see in the hobby on our regular dry foods. The tour would be even better in spring when they are caring for fertile eggs.
