Goldfish spawn
Had another spawn two weeks after the last one. If anyone wants to try hatching goldfish eggs, I have some to spare.

Well, I do not see any fry however my eyes are not the best so I added some green water just in case.

Well, I can see a few slivers moving. If you have some of your other goldfish spawn let me know I will try my luck.

Tiny
If you see a few, you probably have more than that. Throw in some microworms and then brine in a couple of days. I'm hoping for another spawn later next week or the week after. Finally seperated the different types so now I should have pure bristols and pure wakins if they spawn again.

Re: Goldfish spawn
I am feeding them microworms in addition to the green water. They are so small so I thought I would wait with the bbs.

A new observation
From a happy accident I added myriophyllum plants to my goldfish tub. Had another spawn this weekend and there were much more eggs on this plant than the old standard anacharis. The fine leaves seem to catch and hold the eggs better. Makes sense when I think about it, just never really gave much attention to spawning medium.

If you have any extra eggs I would like to try and hatch some more out.

Re: Goldfish spawn
I can count at least 15 fry with the second batch of fry. I put them in the tank with some newly hatch angel fry.
I have my first batch in a tank of green water. I will see how many I have in this tank this weekend. I am thinking that there are only3 or 4 but we will see.

Last batch
They seem to have slowed finally. That last batch was productive, I have hundreds of fry.

Re: Goldfish spawn
Any chance of selling me some fry?
At what size can I put the fry outside?

How many?
They are still quite small yet but you can put them outside. I would put them in a 20 gallon tub for now to grow them out a little more and move them out in a week or two.

Re: Goldfish spawn
Is there a general rule about how old goldfish need to be to spawn?

goldfish age for spawning
Usually it takes a year for them to reach breeding age. Spawning is usually in the spring after their dormant period, you can induce spawning with some techniques and sometimes with older fish, you can get a fall spawn if you bring them indoors. You get the best spawns from 2-3 year old fish.

Re: Goldfish spawn
The eggs have hatched and the goldfish are starting to grow, they are about a 1/2 to 1 inch long. They have not started to color up yet but they are doing well.

Goldfish color
Mine are starting to color up about now from the spawns this spring. They usually start coloring up at about five months. If they are outdoors and warm temps, they will color up quicker than goldies kept inside. Some are quick to turn while others can take up to a year. Enjoy the process, it's fun to see what you'll get. I'm starting to see a lot of yellows in mine. I was hoping for red and whites but I still have a lot of dark wild colors that haven't changed yet so we'll see. Keeping my fingers crossed. Calico can be seen right away, they are always white or light in color to begin with. You might have some of those also.

wakin goldfish
The first spawns were from wakin goldfish, they are some of the largest goldfish. Nice pond fish to keep with koi. Should have a long body with a double tail, sometimes you get single tails out of spawns. Here is a link to what a show winning wakin should look like. http://www.samurai-goldfish.net/kingyocatalog/wakin.html
