Import Price List
I put on the CITAC website a price list of fish from an import company. I'm still getting shipping costs/details, but shipping might double the price or more.
It's hundreds of pages long, and has about every fish known to man on it. Some are really cheap, others not so much. Guess it depends on if they raise them there or import them.
Fun to look at I guess.
Re: Import Price List
From what I can figure out, shipping and handling on each box is about $250. So if you had 500 fish in a box it obviously adds $.50 a fish.
If anyone is interested let me know.
Re: Import Price List
I've adjusted the price list to include shipping. These prices are best guess, and might vary a little either way. I estimated a little high so I doubt it would go up.
If we can get enough interest I would be interesed in participating in an order. Some kind of off the wall things on that list I would like to take a look at.
Let me know if you are interested.
Thanks.

Dave,
What type of guarantee will there be with these? Do you know where they would be delivered at.
Any issues with customs?

Re: Import Price List
Mark,
The guarantee is live arrival I would assume. If they were DOA I also would assume credit and not a refund. I can check.
They take care of the customs and all of that. That’s why the shipping is so high.
They ship to Chicago, so we’ll have to wait until I can get a day off unless they car make them arrive on a Saturday.

Re: Import Price List
The guy in Singapore says that they do actual refunds on DOAs. They have been shipping fish around the world since 1970 and say they have very few problems.
We ordered from them a few times back in 1995 when I was importing fish and will say we had no problems at all.
They can ship for Saturday arrival.
So, it just comes down to who wants to order what and when. We have to fill boxes to make the shipping as economical as possible which is 10 bags of the 1/10 qty column or 4 of the 1/4's etc. We can also do combinations like (2) 1/4's and (5) 1/10's etc.
I'll do the standard disclaimer in that you know as much about the fish as I do. So whatever shows up is what you get. We do have to pay when we order for the first order.
If you are interested in an order, email me and let me know ballpark what you are looking for and when you want to do it.
thanks - I'll post a up to date list as i get them

So your adjustment is the "total for 1/10 box"?
I'm assuming that you didn't go through and adjust every single price, so what should we look at to find a reasonable estimate for our total cost on any given fish. Some prices look high, but if that's the shipped price, then they sound pretty reasonable...

I think Dave has adjusted the price to include shipping but I may be wrong.

Re: Import Price List
i know that's what he said, my question is did he adjust the price of every single fish listed there? that seems unrealistic because there's like a thousand different fish listed on there, that would take forever.
or am i missing something? (very possible)

Re: Import Price List
Um don't you have to have an import license for customs in Chicago? Also what kind of quality are these fish, do they have pictures?

Re: Import Price List
Jikin - No import license needed, the shipper takes care of the fish clearing customs (see next post). Not sure what you mean by 'quality"? These are the fish that places like Apet and Wilson buy to resell (other than the ones they get from Florida). If you mean are they sick, deformed, torn fins, etc the answer is no they are not, at least they shouldn’t be. Not sure there are places that deal in fish 'seconds'. :-)
My only 'issue' we had with them in the 90's was that the 'Smalls' were SMALL. The Larges were maybe what I would consider Medium. However, we had very few losses and they always over counted the bags by 20% or more. We had more issues with the fish we got from places like 5D in Florida than we did from here.
I'm going to order fish if we end up ordering if that tells you anything.
Simillis - As I stated before, the prices INCLUDE SHIPPING. Don't make this harder than it is. I adjusted the prices of the fish to include the $250 a box shipping (handling, customs, etc). The original list is in Excel so altering the prices in mass is quite easy.
The price per fish (in each size category) is the same regardless as to whether you order a whole box quantity, or 1/4 box quantity or 1/10 box quantity. To make things easy, I included the column that calculated the 1/10 bag price which is simply the price listed times the 1/10 bag quantity.
Any questions let me know.

Re: Import Price List
Jikin might be correct as I dig deeper into this import process. Way back when this was pretty simple, since Sept. 11th things have changed quite a bit.
Worst case scenario is that it will cost some more money for permits. The guy at US Fish and Wildlife I just talked to said that since these would be farm raised fish for "personal use" and not wild caught or for re-sale it makes the process a touch eaiser. He said that Customs wouldn't be all that big of deal either, just some forms and fees.
I'll get it figured out and let everyone know.
LOL - I thought posting this list would be just kind fun to look at to see all the things available, not a trip into the bowels of govermental red tape. :-(

Re: Import Price List
So….Here is what I know so far. I do have to get permits from US Fish and Wildlife, and fill out some forms for Customs and pay some fees. These fees will total about $90. Charges from the company in Singapore will total about $175, then about $90 per box for freight. Total is about $450. Notice all of those figures are approximate.
It should take about 30-60 days to get all the paperwork done.
I altered the price list to show, based on a 2 box order, what the estimated shipping will be. If we have more boxes the shipping per fish will drop slightly, if we have less it will go up slightly. Included also is the actual price of each fish and the total with shipping.
I’ve had one person say they are good for a box, and I‘m probably in for a half, so we should have at least 2.
NOTE: If you are interested in getting in on this I need to know that you are, and APPROXIMATELY what you are interested in ordering (you can ADD things later if you want). This is going to be a lot of work dealing with the government and I’m not going to do it if there is not enough interest. Please let me know by Friday 8/31.
Hopefully we can pull this off and get some cool things.
Thanks

Re: Import Price List
Dave I am interested in some breeding pairs of discus. I am interested in getting two pairs, one albino and one non albino. I know they are going to cost but I can not committ until I find out some type of price. I think 6 fish in this size would be a entire box but if they cost more then a arm and a leg I will pass and just get some fry.
Any chance of sending a e mail for some prices on breeding pairs?

Re: Import Price List
Mark – I’m not sure this is the forum for buying breeding pairs. Two reason; ones even close to being old enough are going to be $75 and up; there is no guarantee of what sexes you will get.
If you are the patient type you could buy 5 of the small ones and grown them up.
