Success!!!!
Went down to the fishroom this morning and found that my Albino Plecos had spawned and I didnt even know it. The male had been hiding for a while, but that wasn't uncommon.
Sorry for the horrible pictures, will try and get better ones tonight.
Here are some of the babies, I counted 6 that I could see.
Here is Mom, Dad was being a little shy.
I give credit for the success to the good 'ole Lake Bloomington driftwood she is sitting on.

wow
I hope to get bristlenoses to do their thing some day.
How big were the young? They look like they had some growth time on them. They must have stayed out of sight pretty well. I'd heard that that's what happened from others too.
Maybe the parents will be inspired to keep up the good work! Good luck.

Re: Success!!!!
They couldnt have been too old as I didnt put them together that long ago, maybe a week?
Not sure how the babies are doing as I really havent seen them eat. I've thrown about everything I know plecos eat but they still look 'skinny'. If they starve it wont be for lack of food options.
I took one out to raise in a fry tank to see if that makes a difference.
I have another big female I'm going to put in there to see if i get lucky again.
Time will tell.

Re: Success!!!!
I guess they are eating the squash. Have never seen them on it before.
Is the male fanning eggs again? I tried every way I could to see what is back there, but couldn't see anything. Video is bad, but you can see he's doing something.

Re: Success!!!!
Glad to know they are eating the squash.
I'd never thought about aquatic feeding of squash before; but I'm growing them in my garden (yellow summer squash) and will have to try them. I think I might try the bolts idea too...
As an aside, for feeding dark green leafy veggies... has anyone tried dandelion greens (non-pesticide treated), or know if they would work/are good (for the fish, snails, etc.)? I can get an abundant, fresh, and free supply from my neighbor's yard.
Nice pics and video, btw.

Babies are getting bigger. Counted maybe 10-12 of them. Sorry for the crappy pictures, but this little on is about an inch or so long. About double the size from when I first saw them.

Cute little buggars...
Hey, if anyone needs some free yellow summer squash... just let me know. I'm picking several about every other day. I'm also going to be having cucumbers out the ying yang. Picked my first batch of them, and tomatoes, today too. Just check with me for availability and pick therm up!

Re: Success!!!!
I have 'Ying Yang' squash too, very prolific strains.
Yes, plecs love cucumbers. Funny coincidence... Just last night I was able to photograph my very shy bristlenose male on a cucumber I'd put in the tank. I've only seen his full body a couple of times since he was little. Will have to post some pics if they came out.

Re: Success!!!!
Here is a short update on the babies. They do like squash and appear to be about 13-14 of them.

They're so cute!
They really do seem to be loving the squash... my bristlenose and snails are loving it too! I'm so glad you posted about the squash. Here I've got it coming out my ears from my garden (and cucumbers now too), but never would have thought to feed it to the fish and snails. But now it's a main staple for the snails. Thanks much for the info/idea. Now if I can just get my butt in gear to post pics (backlog, have been planning to post but can't seem to get that far )
I enjoyed the video. There's a part in it where two of them look like they are bickering over a spot on the squash... made me smile.

They are fun to watch. I'm trying eggplant next, less seeds and stuff to clean up after.

I scoop out the seeds first and let them eat the flesh and skin until it gets so mushy it's breaking apart into pieces. Then I just scoop those out.
Going to try the kale next. Thanks, Mark.
