local swap meet

What do you think about creating a local swap meet several times a year for our area?

i would say fall or winter on a date that no other clubs have an event. possibly plan it around one of the gcca swaps so we can draw from that crowd also? like as in the weekend before if at all possible? the key is having enough time to get the word out. if it was me setting it up, I would go for a Saturday in the late fall or winter.

We need time to get the word out, get some tables sold, and give breeders time to get their stock ready. Tricky I understand, but maybe this first one we just need to pick a date and let it fly, build from there.

Personally I think we should wait until after Christmas just because of the timing.

January? People have all of their Christmas money to spend!

I agree. im in for whatever the group decides. another thing to consider is location? also what about getting together with the Bloomington saltwater group when they hold their event, and bill it as a big event with both fresh and salt followings?

The saltwater club holds their "Frag-tober" fest in October at the Interstate center.

Would be neat if they would allow us to tag along and help with their expenses, but I dont know how they would feel about it. Any know any contacts with them?

Their event is Oct 5th, same day as the one in St Louis. I'm out.

yeah that stinks for this year. maybe it would work out for next year. as far as I know there isn't any other event around that would be like it. I would have to think it would be a good draw from both Chicago and stl. in the meantime does anybody have any ideas for a venue for our proposed event? and to go along with that is there any ideas on fundraising to secure a venue?

It doesnt appear on the Interstate Center's event calendar. :-(
