I bought a 4 ft shop light at menards. one plant bulb and one full spectrum bulb. the plants seem to be thriving  and the baby guppy's love the hiding places..

Very nice. I too went the Menards shop light method and replaced the regular tank hoods and I actually have plants growing.

Gee, who'd a thunk that more light would help the plants........ :-(

Sometimes it's the obvious things that evade me.

The shoip light I got at Menards was like $15. I spray painted it black and it actually looks OK.

My palnts sure appreciated it. :-)

Does your light seem to get any hotter being black ?  I am surprised by how much of my plants are above the water line.
